“ first time here & it's such a wholesome feeling japanese restaurant! the service was good & the food was great! it's a nice place if you want a quiet evening with friends or a bigger party since they have larger seatings or seatings near the bar/counter! ”

“ Yuzu is a teeny tiny iddy biddy little restaurant, with a communal seating arrangement, that, I wasn't expecting. Now I'm not accustomed to sharing my eating space with strangers but Yuzu is so tiny you're kind of forced to share your table with complete unknowns, kind of like a teeny Japanese school canteen. So we waited a few minutes for a table to be cleared as the restaurant was packed, there were about 20 people in there but it was packed, then we were seated. We thought 'great, our own little corner space' until two more couples were seated in the same area. No biggie, it's more cosy that way. Very cosy indeed. So we ordered edamame beans, chicken and prawn katsu to start. Didn't wait too long I thought. The beans were brought and we proceeded to chomp away, skin and all! 'God, these are chewy we thought!' Who knew you have to pop them out of the skin first!!!! My partner, bless him, was stabbing away at the beans with his chopstick trying to embrace the culture. Imagine eating baked beans by piercing them one by one with a stick. Anyway the Japanese lad seated near us asked for a fork, so we thought, yep that's the way forward, so we did the same. Hallelujah!!!!!!!!! Our mains were lovely, veg udon for me, prawn tempura for he. He wolfed down his and proceeded to dig into my noodles. I loved the big udon noodles, very tasty. I was excited at the little bits of crispy seaweed in it, but there was only an incy wincy eeny beeny iddy biddy little bit of seaweed. I was a little sad at this. But it was still lovely. He enjoyed his main, but left the accompanying miso as it didn't really add much to the meal and left a strange aftertaste. The bill was about £36, we were on soft drinks as driving but still not bad pricing. We were a bit hungry still so stopped at my favourite Sainsbury's for 'treats'. We're just very greedy, I think. Would return as it was nice and authentic. Hopefully next time we'll get our own little table. Don't think that'll happen though. Be prepared to eat in close proximity with strangers. ”

“ My pal and I were both utterly taken with Yuzu. And, unlike some other reviewers, we didn't take issue with the service. But then there were only two of us and it was very quiet on a Saturday afternoon. The starters arrived after the mains, which was a little disarming but, hey, better late than never. Agadashi tofu wasn't the best I've had, but was more then edible. My mate's prawn gyoza starter on the other hand - "I could've eaten a whole plate of those, mmmm". My salmon teriyaki dish was accompanied by pickled cucumber and miso soup, all of which I duly wolfed down. My friend's veggie udon dish was huge, and full of crunchy veg - a great choice for the famished. Perhaps this is a better lunch option rather than dinner due to somewhat restricted space. Be aware, it closes at 2.30 until the evening shift, so don't arrive too late. Overall, this is a lovely, understated restaurant quietly residing among the loud shopfronts of Chinatown. ”

“ We had a serious craving for Japanese food this week, so naturally I jumped on Yelp to find out where was best and I can happily say that I wasn't disappointed with the great reviews this place gets. Tiny it might be, but it's charm appeal is huge. Nestled in Chinatown, you'd be forgiven for walking past Yuzu in favour of some of the flashier establishments. We decided to share some edamame and the gyoza. We both agreed that the gyoza were the best we've ever tasted! For mains we opted for the tuna sashimi and the teriyaki salmon, both served with rice, miso soup and seasoned okra. The tuna and the salmon were both delicious, even the rice was fantastic. Throw in some tasty plum wine and it was a perfect meal for me. Needless to say I'll be heading back here next time I have a craving for Japanese food. ”

“ Yuzu has excellent sashimi and tempura. It's quite a small restaurant so worth booking in advance if you're going at a busy time. As other reviews have said, the gyoza are made with quality bits of prawn (although I would like to see vegetable gyoza too). The sashimi I tried was salmon, tuna, and scallop, all melt in the mouth. For food this quality, it's rvery easonably priced and the service is generally responsive. NB no desserts so don't be afraid to fill up on sashimi! ”
